TYPICAL INSTALLATION TIME: around 2 minutes

Before fitting PlugMinder

Simple fitting, sensible safety checks

There are three factors that help make the installation process clearer, safer and easier to follow: how the baseplate fits behind the socket, whether power to the socket should be isolated, and whether the connected plug and cable have enough clearance.

Simple installation

The PlugMinder baseplate is only 1mm thick at the clamping points, so the socket screws normally only need to be loosened by a few turns to slide the baseplate into position. The socket does not need to be fully removed, helping avoid exposure to the wiring behind the socket.

Socket power isolation

Although PlugMinder is designed to be fitted without exposing the electrical wiring, we recommend switching off the relevant socket circuit at the consumer unit or fuse box before installation as an extra safety precaution. If you are unsure, ask a qualified electrician.

Check cable clearance

Before locking the cover, make sure the plug sits comfortably inside the cover and that the cable exits through the correct cable opening without being trapped, twisted or pulled tightly.

INSTALLATION GUIDE

Installation instructions

Installation steps 1–3

Install the baseplate

The first stage is to securely install the baseplate between the socket and the wall before connecting the plug and closing the cover.

Step 1

Loosen socket screws

Undo the screws that hold the socket in place by approx 2mm (3-4 turns).

STEP 2

Slide baseplate in position

From the top, slide the baseplate downwards between the socket and the wall until the top of the baseplate rests on the top of the socket.

STEP 3

Retighten socket screws

Once the baseplate is in position, retighten the socket screws making sure that the baseplate is clamped firmly between the socket and the wall. Make sure the screws are tight as it is this pressure that holds the whole cover in place.

Installation steps 4–5

Insert plugs

Plug in the devices you want to protect and hook any device charging cables over the baseplate arms to prevent removal.

STEP 4

Insert plugs

Insert the plugs that need protecting into the socket.

STEP 5

Loop any charging cables around baseplate hook

If protecting any device charging cables, these can be looped around the baseplate hook. The cable will be trapped between the baseplate and cover, preventing removal of the cable.

Installation steps 6–9

Install, secure and lock cover

Finish the installation by securing the cover to the baseplate and then locking with the supplied locking tool

STEP 6

Remove inserts if required

PlugMinder has inserts in the bottom cable exit holes that can be removed to accommodate plugs with moulded cables or USB cables.

STEP 7

Slide cover onto baseplate

Slide the cover onto the baseplate and secure with the three plastic screws - one on the top of the cover and one on either side.

STEP 8

Switch on sockets

Once the cover is securely installed, open the switch cover and turn on the sockets before locking the cover and blocking access.

STEP 9

Lock the cover to block access

Finally, with the locking tool, rotate the centre triangular lock 180 degrees clockwise, clicking it in place to block all access to the plugs, switches and cables. The viewing window shows red to confirm cover is locked.

Final step

Final installation check

After installing, check the following...

  • the cover opens and closes smoothly without fouling any plugs
  • the cables exit the bottom outlets cleanly
  • the viewing window fully shows red (locked) or green (unlocked).

If the cover does not close freely, reopen it and check the plug and cable position before locking.
